Services and Tips, Security, Mobile Phones, Cloakroom Vatican

Decently dressed visitors

Admission to the Vatican Museums, the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica and the Vatican Gardens is allowed only to decently dressed visitors.
Upholstered and/or low-cut clothing, shorts that do not cover up to the knees, miniskirts and hats are not allowed.

The decoration also extends to any visible personal objects and distinctive personal signs that are just as visible (such as tattoos) and may offend Catholic morals, the Catholic religion and the familiar feeling of modesty.

Security Metal Detector Control Operations

To facilitate and speed up metal detector control operations, it is advisable to separate items that are not allowed (umbrellas, knives, weapons, scissors and/or various kinds of metal tools) from your hand luggage beforehand to the Museums, and to report them in advance to the staff in charge.

Vatican Cloakroom

Before accessing the exhibition spaces, visitors must store their luggage, suitcases, backpacks, medium and large umbrellas (or those with pointed ends) in the closet, sticks (except walking aids), photo easels, video cameras, signs and signs of any kind. Packages and containers that, by size and characteristics, are not considered suitable by the staff in charge.

The introduction of alcoholic and alcoholic beverages into the Museums is not allowed (daily delivery/collection at the cloakroom is mandatory).

The cloakroom service is free.

Consumption of Food and Beverages

The consumption of food and beverages inside the exhibition halls is prohibited.

However, visitors can deliver any type of food and/or drink in their possession free of charge to the cloakroom (the collection is mandatory within the closing time of the same day of the visit, under penalty of the destruction of what is not claimed).

Use of Mobile Phones

In their efforts to ensure the best visiting experience, the Vatican Museums strongly discourage the use of mobile phones within exhibition spaces.

However, visitors are required to activate the ringtone in silent mode.

The use of mobile phones is prohibited in the Sistine Chapel.
